“Work hard in silence, let your success make the noise.”
– Frank Ocean
ibn-e-batuta, bagal me juta
pehne to karta hai churrr
ud ud aave, daana chuge
ud jaave chidiya furrr

Actions speak louder than words
Words are meaningless until they are followed by deeds. We frequently prefer to talk about our plans since it is always simpler to do so; yet, just talking does not take us anywhere.
Only taking action will.
How we act demonstrates how serious and dedicated we are to our plans & goals.
The success shines brighter when it comes out of working silently. Making noise about the plans before delivering the results is never respected or valued. It is easier to focus and direct all of one's energies while working in solitude.
The more one talks, the less one accomplishes.
Gulzar emphasizes this concept in this song. As an experiment, he picks three common sayings from day to day life and use them in his own magical words to say a song.
Ibn-e-Battuta, became world’s one of the most famous explorer only after he had travelled the world, not before he had started it. Had he announced his intentions of travelling the world, very doubtful if he could have finished that.
Gulzar brings out the importance of working silently in this song by creating the dilemma of Ibn-e- attuta.
Ibn-e-Battuta cannot walk without making noise; his shoes are loud as he walks. As a result, any step he takes would draw attention to himself.
He cannot get started.
Whereas a little bird, who comes flying, nibbles and just leaves, without making any sound.
The famous traveller is unable to move, whilst an average bird quickly completes its duty. What an irony!
The saying, "barking dogs rarely bite" certainly applies here!
There is also another way to look at the whole thing through the concept of travelling light.
Frequently, the past or our worry about the future doesn’t let us move ahead. The emotional baggage we carry becomes a burden for us. And, to climb higher we always need to lose weight.
Therefore, one must have unwavering trust in the travel-light theory to prevent the past and the future from influencing our present.
The bird in the song stands for that individual who has nothing within them and is instead free of any worries.
Therefore, it can finish its task, while the famous traveller is just standing there carrying his own weight.
‘If you wish to travel far and fast, travel light. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness and fears.’ – Cesare Pavese
o agale mod pe maut khadi hai,
arre marne ki bhi kya jaldi hai,
horn bajaake aa bagiyan mein,
ho durghatana se der bhali hai
Haste makes waste
There is nothing more unpredictable than life itself. Nobody is certain about the length of a life, any moment could be the last. One must be aware of this reality and act accordingly.
With so much uncertainty around, one requires patience. Any action done in haste can have undesirable outcomes, which effectively leads to the waste of time, money, and energy.
One needs to lead the life with a lot of patience and precautions.
Life is meant to be enjoyed and lived. No amount of rushing in life can change the outcome. The destination will not change no matter the haste!
Why rush, then, when we have no idea when or where it will end?
‘Take time for all things; great haste makes great waste’.
– Benjamin Franklin
dono taraf se bajti hai ye
aay haaye zindagi kya dholak hai
horn bajaake aa bagiyan me
are thoda aage gatirodhak hai
‘Life is a constant oscillation between the sharp horns of dilemmas.
– H L Mencken
The grass is greener on the other side.
Life oscillates between dilemmas.
Believe it or not?
Have it or not?
Travel light or travel fully packed?
Keep it or lose it?
At every moment, life offers us choices to select from.
Have we ever felt content with the decision we made? Definitely not! Whatever decision we choose, the other option eventually begins to appeal to us.
Such is life.
Whichever one we choose, the other one begins to hold our interest more.
Do we constantly yearn for the one we do not have or do we find delight in what we do?
Life is full of hassles. There are many hassles in life. No task or journey can be completed without obstacles.
Troubles are an inevitable part of life.
Problems show up in life as a sign that something is wrong and that we need to reconsider our approaches. These problems behave as speed bumps on the highway, wanting us to change our speed rather than stop.
Therefore, the next time we encounter a challenge, we should consider it a speed breaker, consider it calmly, and we will quickly discover a solution.
Gulzar never misses an opportunity to embrace life philosophy in the songs he writes, whether it be a serious song or something fun like this one.
This song he has created around some well-known proverbs! Only a genius like him can do this.
Kudos !!!! Who could have ever thought that this could be a way of looking at this song...let me guess... Either Gulzar saab or you !!! Honestly I never took this song seriously, dismissing it as a comic opening. But now, I am smiling at my own ignorance Boss. Kisney socha tha ki it a gehra Matlab bhi ho sakta hai !!! Really love the insightful vyakhya that Shashi does of Gulzar's poetry helping unravel the layers of meaning within, making it more accessible and appreciate the poet even more (not that he needed it!)
